The City Clerk serves as the filing officer and the Clerk’s Office is responsible for all candidates’ filings, the issuance and acceptance of nomination papers, City measures, and publication of all legal notices as well as campaign and conflict of interest filings required by the Political Reform Act. The general municipal elections for the City are held on the first Tuesday in November of even-numbered years for the purpose of electing City Council members or placing special measures before the voters. The City Council is made up of five city council members who are nominated and elected by District. The Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem are selected by a vote of their peers annually at a City Council meeting in December, to serve the following calendar year. The City Council members are non-partisan.
For specific questions regarding the election process, please contact the City Clerk during regular business hours at (949) 461-3420.
