The Lake Forest City Council on Tuesday unanimously selected Neeki Moatazedi to serve as Mayor for 2020. Councilman Mike James will serve as Mayor Pro Tem. These leadership roles begin in January.
Moatazedi moved to Lake Forest in 2016 because of its sense of community and the beauty of the City’s parks and trails. She was elected to the City Council in 2018 to represent District 2, which includes the Baker Ranch community, and served as Mayor Pro Tem in 2019. Moatazedi is a project manager for Southern California Gas Co., working with regulators and other agencies. She is a longtime volunteer and supporter of Laura’s House charities, which help women and children of domestic violence.
James is a retired Assistant Sheriff for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. A 25-year resident of Lake Forest, James was appointed to the City Council to fill a vacancy in October of 2019. He was an inaugural member of the City’s Traffic and Parking Commission and also volunteers with Laura’s House.
The December 17 meeting was Councilman Mark Tettemer’s last as Mayor. He credited his colleagues and staff for the accomplishments of 2019, including the opening of the City’s Civic Center and thanked them for the opportunity to serve as Mayor.
The Lake Forest City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month at the Civic Center, 100 Civic Center Dr.
