The 86-acre Sports Park and Recreation Center opened in November 2014, and is one of the largest sports park in Orange County with 57 acres devoted to sports fields and a multi-functional recreational center.
The facility has been well-received by the community and its sports fields are used seven days a week. As of March 2016, the Sports Park serves approximately 1,800 softball/baseball participants and 1,650 soccer/lacrosse/cricket participants per month and hosts 11 sports tournaments per year. The gymnasium is used by approximately 1,200 participants per month during "open gym" to enjoy basketball and volleyball. The additional space in the recreation center has enabled the City to expand contract classes, youth and teen camps, special events, the preschool program, and youth and adult sports. From picnic gazebos for a fun celebration, trails for walking, to several playgrounds and tot lots for children, we have something for everyone!
The landscaping and architectural design of the facility preserves the natural beauty of the Saddleback Valley and incorporates utilizes energy-saving measures whenever possible. Those elements include a meandering dry rock creek bed, two bio-retention basins, and grassy vegetated swales meandering through the sports fields and parking lots. The facility also incorporates recycled water in the restrooms, drought tolerant and native plant species, and select turf grasses requiring reduced water needs.
Leashed dogs are welcome at the Sports Park and are allowed on certain areas of the park only. Dogs are not permitted inside the facilities or on the sports fields unless they are service animals, with all dogs prohibited on the synthetic fields. For park user convenience, dog waste bag dispensers are located throughout the park.
