City Celebrates Topping Out at Civic Center

The “Topping Out” is a time-honored tradition in construction, a celebration when the last piece of steel is placed on a project. On Thursday, January 10, Lake Forest officials gathered for the Topping Out ceremony for the Civic Center complex.

City officials, staff and workers signed the beam before it was hoisted into the rafters of what will be the Community Center, one of four buildings that will make up the $72 million Civic Center. A Senior Center, Performing Arts Center/Council Chambers and City Hall will round out the campus, called the City’s “100 Year Home.”

After the beam was signed, an American flag was affixed to it and a crane hoisted it into place. Welders were waiting to lock it into place. The Civic Center is on schedule to finish this fall. The project is primarily being paid for with fees from new housing. For more, see the “Civic Center” page linked below.
